So, it has come to this... I am also, not your average teen gamer, and have had a character in EVE since 2006. Simply put, this game speaks to my space-faring, sci-fi/reading and dreaming self, at a level untouched by even my MechWarrior days...
I have been looking forward to DUST 514 with a fever, even discounting the fact that it is only going to be on PlayStation and its lousy network, I'll still be getting one for DUST, and DUST will be the only PS game I play or own (On a side note, I'd love to see some elements of Tabula Rasa in the DUST 514 gameplay).
So it was with eagerness I looked forward to this new expansion. Finally, something to "see"! Unfortunately, as with Tabula Rasa, while the eye candy is sweet, the limited functionality of the overall addition, leaves so much to be desired, that as Tabula Rasa went, so may this go. That being said, I'll leave you with all I find endearing, and what needs serious attention...
Endearing List - 1. Seeing my bird from a personal perspective, instead of the in-station security camera point of view. 2. Pod pilots can walk! 3. Updated graphics - I LOVE the new turrets - specifically, the more clearly scientific suspension of disbelief... AutoCannons now look and fire, like one! Same with every other distinction between the gunnery types... Rails, Blasters, Pulse or solid lasers, Autocannons or Artillery - those have been eye-sores for soooo long, THANKYOU for FIXING THAT! Also, Turret Animations - At one time EVE had recoil's visible on the gunnery devices... Thank you, for returning those! Now some Caldari love, please? Missile bay animations?
Serious Attention List - 1a. My birds are all the same size! Attempting to introduce the perspective, has lost it! I'm just sayin'... 1b. No more ship spinning - really? This talks more to the broken promises issue previously addressed by another poster, but much like the "No new Taxes" promise bit RR in the butt, so may this - especially in a game that "listens to its user base, to such a degree, that CCP has created a User council that interact with the developers". I see no interaction in the notes that comes close to this being a user requested feature... I'm just sayin'... 2a. WiS - this whole thing should have been better thought out - for instance, I can see a spartan place being "rented" to a pilot who has no office in the station, but those of us who spend some time in our office's, would like something way better than the spartan quarters, especially as some of us spend millions a month having an office there... And those w/ office's, should have been able to walk into a corporate interfacing room, with inventory, ship, Administrative access from 3D objects there, etc... Ultimately, this would have been a considerable win with the user base, had at least 3 more things been thought out - 1. Amount of walkable content, 2. the option to have the old interface, and 3. contextual implementation that doesn't loose the pilot his pod identity (since the ENTIRE history written of EVE, and space exploration in general, was because the sapient body in its natural state, couldn't endure the gravitational stress's, until the pod concept had been born... Pods and System Waygates are integrated into the story; now, we are attempting to diminish its importance? If you remember the original history, Pod's can't be put on and off like a set of cloth's - you're bio-engineered with a pod in mind, tasked with piloting. I'm just sayin'... 3a. Graphics - Serious impediment to even the hardiest of graphics cards - within 3 minutes of logging in, my GPU fan is maxed out, and stays that way til I log off. This was NOT the hardware friendly update as promised... And I happened to have gotten a newer card than I had back when that promise was made... I'm just sayin'...
